Kath was Associate Director of YMT: UK from 2004-2008. She is an actor, writer, director and co-founder of the award-winning Weird Sisters theatre company, with whom she devised and co-wrote three shows, winning five international theatre awards and a nomination for Best Ensemble at Edinburgh Fringe.
Her most recent solo show, The Mother's Bones, won the Manchester Evening News Award for Best Fringe Performance and was performed in Colorado, USA in the summer of 2008, after receiving five star reviews at Edinburgh Fringe 2007. For YMT Kath has adapted and directed Goblin Market, first produced at the Lyric Theatre Belfast and subsequently at George Square Theatre, Edinburgh (now published by Josef Weinberger); Over the Edge, presented at Belfast Festival, and Missing Mel, all with composer Conor Mitchell. She co-created Persona in 2006 and Rare Dreams in 2007 with Nancy Spanier, Paul Oertel and Sonum Batra and in 2008 directed The Silver Bough for Aberdeen International Youth Festival. In addition, Kath has many times co-ordinated Let It Snow, been part of YMT's audition team and run a number of Studios and open-access projects in England, Northern Ireland and Scotland. She remains committed to working with young and emerging artists.
Kath trained in physical and visual theatre with Scott Kelman, Cal McCrystal, Guy Dartnell, Jonathan Kay, John Mowat and Gerry Flanagan, among others. She has written sketches for BBC Radio 4, and was Lecturer in English and Drama at the University of Southampton 1989-97, during which time she completed a Ph.D and book on Christina Rossetti (Writers and Their Work Series, 1998) and several other published essays in 19th Century literature and culture. She was Coordinator of the MA in Theatre Studies, 1994-96. Kath is also an actor with numerous stage, TV, radio and film credits. Recent work includes two UK tours of Thatcher - the Musical! in which she played Britannia Maggie. In 2008 Kath has participated in a series of rehearsed readings at Bury St Edmunds Theatre Royal, for the Restoring the Repertoire season.
